Outspoken: Finding your voice and using it

Outspoken is a program for women* in the wine industry to foster and advance skills in self-expression and self-confidence through public speaking and debating; a training platform empowering participants to successfully advocate for a position or desired outcome.  *Including AFAB (assigned female at birth), non-binary individuals, and those with a trans experience/history.

Outspoken founder Sophie Otton and Women And Revolution co-founders Bridget Raffal and Jacqueline Turner have engaged Dr Doctor Kathryn MacKay, a certified sommelier and senior lecturer in Bioethics and Public Health at Sydney University to conduct a series of online training sessions. The sessions are designed to build womens’ experience, confidence and skills in reasoning, articulating and arguing on their feet, with the overarching aim of individuals finding and developing their particular voice.

PROGRAM:

Module 2 of Outspoken will focus on argumentative skills and managing emotion in conflict based situations.  The program takes place online,  over four Tuesday mornings in September, starting on the 5th.

A rough outline of the course can be found below:

1. Reading a paper (emotional labour), collecting stories.

2. Reading a paper (uses of anger), talking about how to use emotions to our advantage.

3. Workshopping stories & argumentative skills - how to think on your feet and common tricks people will pull on you

4. Workshopping stories & argumentative skills - how not to cry and what to do if you do cry
